WSL Norway defender Mathilde Harviken joins Aston Villa
Inside the bustling training ground at Villa Park, the echo of new boots on the pitch signals a fresh chapter for WSL Norway defender Mathilde Harviken as she steps onto Aston Villa’s turf for the first time after completing her move from Italian giants Juventus, the 24‑year‑old centre‑back is ready to test herself in England’s top women’s league.
Harviken’s journey began in her native Norway, where she cut her teeth with FL Fart before moving to Røa. In 2022 she signed for Rosenborg, stepping up in the Women’s Super League and establishing herself as a reliable centre‑back.
During her spell at Rosenborg she amassed more than 80 appearances and played a key role in the club’s Norwegian Cup triumph in 2023. The defender’s consistency earned her recognition across the domestic scene.

In 2025 she transferred to Italian giants Juventus, adding almost 50 matches to her résumé. While in Turin she helped the side capture domestic trophies and featured in the Champions League campaign. Harviken broke into the senior Norway squad in 2022 after progressing through the youth ranks, and has since become a regular international. She represented the Red Devils at the 2023 World Cup and will feature at EURO 2025. Speaking after finalising the transfer, Harviken expressed her enthusiasm. “It’s a really good opportunity to join a club with such a big history. There are great facilities here and everything you need to perform and continue developing as a player,” the 24‑year‑old said. Villa’s recruitment chief praised the signing. Marisa Ewers, Director of Women’s Football at Aston Villa, added: “Mathilde is a player we’ve been tracking for over two years and we’ve been consistently impressed by her development. She has a lot of experience for her age and we believe she has all the attributes to make an impact here and continue developing. We’re excited to see what she can bring to the team.”
