Vitesse sees new direction after Supreme Court clears licence

🇳🇱 By 4All Football Editorial ·
At the club’s headquarters the clock struck 11:25 as Vitesse announced that the Hoge Raad had ruled on its licence, a clear signal that the organisation is back on the right track after weeks of doubt. The statement, made today, was framed as a decisive moment for the Arnhemmers. The decision, disclosed at 11:25, was welcomed by the club’s leadership as a crucial milestone, confirming the recent legal victory that restored Vitesse’s right to compete. Vitesse had been caught in a protracted legal battle with the KNVB after the national association appealed to the Hoge Raad, challenging the Gerechtshof verdict that sought to return the licence to the Arnhemmers. That controversy left the club in uncertainty for weeks. The Hoge Raad ruling removed that uncertainty, and Claudia Lap, chairperson of the supervisory board, called the outcome a “beautiful confirmation”. She added, “This ruling brings extra peace after a turbulent period for the club.” Lap further explained that the verdict proves the course the club has taken is correct, stating, “The decision shows that the direction the club has chosen is the right one.” Her comments underscored confidence in the current strategy. According to Lap, Vitesse is now working intensively behind the scenes to build a new organisational structure, especially now that a group of new owners has taken control. “In the short term the club focuses on assembling a full squad for the coming season,” she said, adding that financial and organisational stability form the basis for long‑term success. Supporter backing has grown since the licence was initially withdrawn, and the Arnhemmers feel “enormously supported by the loyal fanbase”. Lap thanked the fans, noting, “The support of our fans has been invaluable during this period. We hope to continue to rely on the same unconditional support in the coming seasons.” The KNVB issued a brief statement on Friday acknowledging the Hoge Raad decision, writing, “We will study the decision carefully.” The association said the content will be taken into account by the working group evaluating the professional football licence system. The original Dutch communication used the expression “De Arnhemmers”, a phrasing that highlighted the club’s identity throughout the entire procedure.
