Europa League

Twente meet Ferencváros' Amsterdammer and famed veteran

🇳🇱 By 4All Football Editorial ·

FC Twente will meet Hungarian champions Ferencváros twice later this month in the second qualifying round of the Europa League, with the Dutch side facing a Ferencváros squad that includes Amsterdammer midfielder Elton Acolatse and the widely recognised former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keïta.

The Hongaarse record champions eliminated FK Vojvodina to become Ajax's opponent and also host an Amsterdammer and a well‑known face in their line‑up, highlighting players with a Nederlandse background.

Since the start of 2025, Guineese midfielder Naby Keïta has defended the colours of Ferencváros. The player moved to Liverpool seven years earlier for tens of millions, but his career has declined since leaving Anfield and he is not guaranteed a starting place in Hungary.

Philippe Rommens, a Belgian youth product of PSV, swapped Go Ahead Eagles for Ferencváros two years ago. He featured only five times in the OTP Bank Liga last season, while Australian international Daniel Arzani saw even less action and did not play in the Vojvodina tie.

A 2024 report on Pascal Jansens' time at Ferencváros noted that the club also has Amsterdammer Elton Acolatse, who made 64 appearances for Jong Ajax, under contract.

De Hungarian side, despite being record champions, finished second behind ETO FC last season, prompting the summer appointment of Balasz Borbely as head coach.

Beyond football, Ferencváros runs handball, ice‑hockey, water‑polo, athletics, swimming, gymnastics and wrestling sections, and reached the Europa League round of 16 before being eliminated by Sporting Braga.

The two legs between the Tukkers and Ferencváros are scheduled for later this month.
