Standard Liège's midfield revamp: DONE DEAL for Rayan Touzghar

🇧🇪 By 4All Football Editorial ·

Standard de Liège moved quickly to plug a midfield void ahead of the 2024‑25 campaign, announcing the signing of 22‑year‑old French‑Moroccan midfielder Rayan Touzghar. The club offered a three‑year contract with an optional extra year, aiming to add depth and dynamism before the season opener on 8 August.

The announcement came on Friday afternoon, with the club confirming that Touzghar arrived from Pau FC, a Ligue 2 side. The deal was described as a DONE DEAL in the official statement, underscoring the swift completion of negotiations between Standard Luik, Pau FC and the player.

Standard Luik wrote on its website, "Everything is final between Standard Luik, Pau FC and the French‑Moroccan midfielder Rayan Touzghar." The wording highlighted the three‑party agreement that sealed the transfer.

Born in 2003, Rayan Touzghar grew up in the French system, training at Nîmes and Toulouse before turning professional with Guingamp in 2024. He spent the winter of 2025 on a six‑month loan at Concarneau and featured in 35 matches for Pau FC last season, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

Touzghar expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "After a nice season at Pau I look forward to continue my development at a renowned club like Standard Luïge. I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and discover the city, the stadium and the supporters."

Sporting director Marc Wilmots praised the signing, calling Touzghar "a box‑to‑box midfielder with great stamina and depth, a good left foot and solid technique." Wilmots added that the French‑Maroccan’s full season at Pau would give the technical staff more options in midfield.

Standard Luik is also still hoping to secure Bentayeb, but the arrival of Touzghar is seen as a step in the right direction as the club prepares for its first competitive match against Cercle Brugge on 8 August.
