Roma’s urgent hunt for Summerville to replace departing stars
Roma are racing to sign Dutch winger Summerville before the weekend to plug the attacking void created by the departures of Greenwood and Celik, after the club missed the July 17 deadline to retain three expiring contracts and now faces a €6 million wage demand from the player.
Greenwood’s exit and Celik’s decision to join Juventus rather than renew his contract have left Roma with a clear gap in their attacking options. Club officials have therefore signalled an urgent need to reshuffle the transfer market.
Head coach Gian Piero Gasperini highlighted the shortfall, noting that by 17 July the club had failed to retain any of the three players whose contracts were due to expire. This failure has added pressure on the summer transfer window.
Roma have made it clear they will not wait beyond the upcoming weekend for a definitive answer from Summerville. Accelerating the signing is now a priority to avoid further squad instability.
Roma chase Dutch winger Summerville as price talks heat up
The Dutch winger is set to return to Europe today after a vacation in Miami. He is expected to speak with his agents within the next few hours to decide his next move. According to La dello Sport, Summerville is still demanding a €6 million salary. Roma are prepared to offer no more than €4.5 million plus bonuses, making the wage gap the main obstacle to finalising the deal.Roma set July deadline as they chase Dutch striker Summerville
At the Trigoria headquarters the club’s directive is to preserve balance in the dressing‑room, a point stressed by Gasperini as he needs time to integrate new arrivals. Management has therefore set a hard deadline of next weekend, or Monday at the latest, for a decision. If Summerville accepts the proposed terms, agent D’Amico will travel to West Ham to complete the transfer, with an estimated outlay of around €40 million for the 2001‑born player. Should the wage gap persist, Roma will look elsewhere for reinforcement.
