PSV’s dominant display marks Van Bommel’s return against Union Sint‑Gillis

🇳🇱 By 4All Football Editorial ·
PSV delivered a convincing victory in a double‑header friendly against Belgian side Union Sint‑Gillis at De Herdgang, winning the two 75‑minute matches 7‑3 overall, while Ruben van Bommel marked his comeback after 301 days out with a knee ligament injury. The first encounter featured a strong PSV eleven and ended in a 3‑3 draw, with the Dutch side eventually taking the lead before the break. In the second match, reserves and youth players were given the chance, and PSV secured a 4‑0 win, completing the 7‑3 aggregate result. The fixture began with a minute’s silence to honour the late referee Rob Dieperink. Ryan Flamingo opened the scoring for PSV with a header from a corner, and Dennis Man doubled the lead after a quick combination with Sven Mijnans, finishing with a long‑range effort. Union replied through Mohammed Fuseini, who beat Nick Olij, but PSV entered halftime with a two‑goal advantage, later extended to 3‑1 by Mijnans. After the interval, Union were awarded a penalty, which Olij saved, then also denied the rebound, before Fuseini restored the lead; later Union striker Guilherme Smith added another goal, while PSV equalised before the end of the first 75‑minute game. The second encounter saw Joël van den Berg give PSV the early lead with a header, followed by Amir Bouhamdi’s striking long‑range goal, and Myron Boadu’s assist to Sami Bouhoudane. Austyn Jones, again set up by Boadu, completed the scoring, sealing the 7‑3 aggregate win. Earlier in their preparation, PSV drew 1‑1 with Royal Antwerp FC and defeated Rakow Częstochowa the week before. Buoyed by the result, Peter Bosz’s squad will travel to Marienfeld on Monday for final preparations ahead of the Johan Cruijff Shield on 2 August.
