Persepolis chase ex‑Fortuna star Halilovic as free‑agent move looms

By 4All Football Editorial ·

Alen Halilovic is on the brink of signing a contract with the Iraanse club Persepolis, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. The 30‑year‑old midfielder is poised to join the Iranian side after months of speculation.

Vandaag, the negotiations between Persepolis and Halilovic are in full swing. The 30‑year‑old finished last season out of contract at Fortuna Sittard in the Eredivisie, leaving him free to explore new options.

De talks have intensified as the Kroaat remains clubless following his free‑transfer departure from Fortuna. Earlier, he was linked with the Thaise topclub Buriram United, a move that never materialised.

Halilovic’s recent season was hampered by injuries, limiting him to just five duels in the Eredivisie. The recurring fitness problems curtailed his playing time and impact on the field.

He arrived in the Dutch top flight on a free transfer from HNK Rijeka in 2023. During his Eredivisie spell he featured in 67 matches, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists.

Early in his career the Kroaat was hailed as one of Europe’s brightest talents. He signed contracts with FC Barcelona and AC Milan but never made a first‑team debut for either club.

His résumé also includes periods at sc Heerenveen, Hamburger SV, Las Palmas and Sporting Gijón, giving him a varied European pedigree.

For Persepolis, the signing adds a technically gifted midfielder with experience across several leagues. For Halilovic, the move offers a fresh start to rebuild his career after a season marred by injuries.
