Manchester City’s goalkeeping gamble hinges on Angers’ teenage prodigy

🇬🇧 By 4All Football Editorial ·

Manchester City are grappling with a shortage of reliable shot‑stoppers, and the Premier League giants have set their sights on 18‑year‑old Max‑Edgar Chabot after he rejected SCO Angers’ first professional contract, although the English club admits it cannot afford to sign the Burkina Faso international on a permanent basis.

Angers responded to the looming loss by signing Anthony Lopes, a free agent after his contract with FC Nantes expired, following the earlier departure of Koffi.

Max‑Edgar Chabot has been a regular for Angers’ U19 side and turned down his first professional contract, underscoring his ambition to move abroad.

He also featured for the France U17 squad at last autumn’s U17 World Cup, gaining valuable international experience.

No contract has been signed yet, but Le Parisien an agreement with Manchester City could be reached within days, and the English club remains keen to secure the teenage goalkeeper.

Manchester City’s pursuit of Chabot reflects the Premier League’s continued appetite for young French talent, adding another name to its recruitment list.

Edgar’s rapid rise from youth football to interest from a top English side underscores the high regard in which his abilities are held, while Angers now faces the challenge of replacing a promising prospect after already losing Koffi and signing Lopes, with financial constraints limiting a permanent deal.
