Leeds United chase Pavel Šulc as Lyon sets €25 million price
Leeds United have entered talks with Olympique Lyonnais about the future of 25‑year‑old Czech forward Pavel Šulc, with the French club reportedly demanding close to €25 million for the player. The English side sees the striker as a potential key addition to their attack.
Šulc’s recent form makes him an attractive target for Leeds, having delivered a prolific goal‑and‑assist return in Ligue 1. His ability to score and create chances aligns with the English club’s need for a proven scorer.
In 38 appearances for Les Rouge et Bleu he started 24 times, scored 14 goals and supplied eight assists across all competitions, establishing himself as a key contributor in the side. Those numbers place him among the most effective Czech forwards in the league this season.
The player arrived at the Rhône‑based club last summer from FC Viktoria Plzeň, often shortened to Plze, for a fee of €7.5 million. He quickly adapted to French football, becoming an integral part of Paulo Fonseca’s squad.
Šulc is contracted to Les Gones until 2029, giving Lyon a strong negotiating position. The length of his deal underpins the nearly €25 million price tag that is currently holding back the transfer.
Lyon’s asking price reflects a broader financial strategy; the club recently secured a near‑€34 million fee for Afonso Moreira’s move to Bayer Leverkusen. A deal for Šulc would represent another significant inflow for the French side.
If Leeds can narrow the valuation gap, the English side would add a proven scorer to their ranks, while Lyon would record another lucrative exit. Both clubs stand to benefit from a resolution that aligns with their respective sporting and financial goals.
The talks remain ongoing, and any agreement will hinge on whether Leeds are prepared to meet Lyon’s valuation and whether the player’s contract length influences the final terms.
