Journalist: Conor Bradley’s return could give Liverpool a timely lift

🇬🇧 By 4All Football Editorial ·

Journalist Conor Bradley’s anticipated return could give Liverpool a timely lift under new head coach Andoni Iraola, offering a much‑needed boost after a series of setbacks and renewed optimism among fans who have grown accustomed to injury woes.

David Lynch, speaking on his YouTube channel, said the Northern Ireland international is making encouraging progress after the serious knee injury he suffered against Arsenal in January. He described the recovery as encouraging and noted that Bradley is targeting a return shortly after the start of the season. Lynch added that “he’s not a million miles away, which might be a nice surprise for some of you.”

Bradley has generated significant excitement in recent years, with his energy, aggression and willingness to drive Liverpool forward highlighted as a bright success story of the previous regime. Because of that, Liverpool have resisted any temptation to rush his recovery, preferring a cautious approach. The club’s supporters have become accustomed to setbacks surrounding his fitness, making the latest update especially welcome.

Lynch emphasized the club’s careful rehabilitation plan, stating “they’re not relying on him. They know they’ve got to take it slow. They’ve got to be very, very careful with him.” This caution reflects lessons from modern football where premature returns have led to further setbacks for talented young players. The emphasis on a measured timeline underscores Liverpool’s commitment to protecting Bradley’s long‑term health.

Andoni Iraola, Liverpool’s head coach, acknowledged that his first campaign is marked by major departures and injuries, describing the situation as “not perfect.” He listed senior exits such as Mo Salah, Robertson and Konate, and highlighted injuries to Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni among others. Iraola said the team must adapt and that recruitment and tactical flexibility will be essential in the opening months.

Despite Bradley’s encouraging recovery, Liverpool still need to strengthen defensively, with Jeremie Frimpong offering pace and attacking quality but the shortage of natural right‑backs remaining a concern. The lack of options forced Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones into unfamiliar positions last season, illustrating the need for another defender. Adding a specialist or versatile defender would reduce the workload on existing players and give Iraola greater tactical freedom.

If Bradley returns around September as hoped, Liverpool could move from a position of concern to genuine strength on the right side of defence, providing a timely lift under Iraola. Our view is that the sensible, patient approach should be applauded, as it protects Bradley’s career and allows the club to plan recruitment without panic. The potential boost would represent an important positive development during the early phase of Iraola’s tenure.
