Frankfurt eye midfield boost as Onyedika deal looms

🇩🇪 By 4All Football Editorial ·

Eintracht Frankfurt have reached a verbal agreement to sign 25‑year‑old Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika from Club Brugge, with the Hessen‑based Bundesliga side prepared to spend an estimated €8‑10 million on the transfer. The deal follows Frankfurt’s recent €13 million acquisition of Bayern Munich’s Noël Aséko and aims to bolster their midfield options for the upcoming season.

The addition of Onyedika is seen as the perfect complement to the recently signed Aséko, giving the club greater depth and flexibility in the centre of the park. Frankfurt’s scouting department believes the 25‑year‑old’s physical profile and experience will fill a gap left by departing midfield options.

Sport the verbal agreement includes a fee in the €8‑10 million range, coming shortly after the €13 million deal for Aséko. The Hessen‑based club is prepared to meet Brugge’s valuation to secure the player before the summer window closes.

Onyedika carries a €23 million estimated market value on Transfermarkt and is entering the final year of his contract with Club Brugge. Brugge originally paid €9.5 million to acquire him from Football Club Midtjylland in the summer of 2022 and now aims to at least break even on the “cash‑in”.

The Belgian Pro League must first give its consent before Onyedika can move to the Bundesliga, and both Eintracht and recently relegated Wolfsburg have previously been rebuffed in their pursuits of the 25‑year‑old. Brugge is expected to resist any attempt to sell the player for less than its valuation.

Negotiations are likely to drag on for some time, leaving fans to wonder: Will Raphael Onyedika join Eintracht Frankfurt? The outcome will depend on league approval and the final terms agreed between the clubs.
