FIFA grants English dementia advocate a World Cup seat
FIFA stepped in on Wednesday to fulfill Englishman Jordan Adams’s lifelong wish, granting him a ticket to the World Cup semi‑final where England faced Argentina, an experience he describes as one of the most special moments of his life despite his battle with frontotemporal dementia.
The update posted today at 20:45 noted that the result of the match was not what Adams had hoped for, yet he still calls the England‑Argentina encounter one of the most memorable experiences of his life.
Adams works alongside his brother Cian to raise awareness for frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and to support related research after their mother, Geraldine, died five years after a diagnosis at age 47. A Pro Shots screenshot from Instagram (@theftdbrothers) documented their campaign.
FTD damages the front parts of the brain, leading to major changes in behaviour, personality and language, while memory initially remains intact.

A devoted football fan, Adams says the sport has always been a huge outlet for him, whether following his beloved Birmingham City or cheering for England, especially during a World Cup tournament. The day before the semi‑final against Argentina, he had an impulse to finally attend a World Cup match. Lacking a ticket, he boarded a flight from Heathrow and posted on social media asking if anyone could still secure a seat for him. “I am 31 years old and I know dementia will take everything from me in ten to fifteen years. It will erase the memories I will make, so it is vital to live in the now,” he wrote, adding that the ticket was worth the risk. Kobbie Mainoo offered to pay for a ticket, but it proved unnecessary when FIFA provided one, fulfilling Adams’s dream. “I feel very, very honoured to be here,” he said after receiving the ticket. Although the match result was not worth writing home about, Adams believes he may be the Englishman who cares the least about the score. “I can say I was there. Against Argentina, too. What a match. It doesn’t get much better in football,” he concluded.
