Birmingham City’s WSL push gains Canadian defender Levasseur
Birmingham City have completed the signing of Canadian international defender Marie Levasseur, a 29‑year‑old, announced via an official club press release from the Blues earlier this afternoon. WSL Full-Time were informed of the news, confirming the move to the English side and adding a player with 18 senior caps for Canada.
Levasseur arrives after a three‑season spell in France with Montpellier HSC at La Paillade. During her time there she helped the French club retain its Arkema Première Ligue status last season, showcasing the defensive quality the Blues seek.
The defender highlighted the appeal of the Women’s Super League, saying she has always wanted to play in the WSL and regards it as one of the best leagues on the women’s side. She added that talks with the coach and staff revealed a team identity built on fighting spirit and collective effort.
Before her French experience, Levasseur turned out for Quebec Dynamo ARSQ, ONS Oulu, FC Metz and FC Fleury 91, gaining experience across North‑European and French football. This diverse club background adds a breadth of tactical understanding to Birmingham’s back line.
On the international stage, Levasseur has been capped 18 times by Canada, bringing valuable senior‑level experience to a side eager to strengthen its defensive options.
Levasseur is Birmingham City’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window, following Millie Turner, Lisa Naalsund and Jade Rastocle. The club expects further business before the new season kicks off, signalling an ambitious recruitment drive.
For Birmingham City, Levasseur’s arrival bolsters a squad aiming to compete in the WSL and aligns with the project the player praised. For Levasseur, the move fulfills her ambition to play in the league she admires, offering a platform to showcase her abilities at a higher level.
