Barcelona Julian Alvarez rebuffed as Atletico Madrid says he stays

🇪🇸 By 4All Football Editorial ·
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has publicly rejected Barcelona's bid for Argentine forward Julian Alvarez, declaring the striker will remain an Atletico player. Cerezo made the comments after Barcelona submitted an official offer, which club president Joan Laporta confirmed had been sent to the Madrid side. Laporta affirmed that Barcelona's official proposal had indeed been forwarded to Atletico Madrid, and he noted that the Catalan side kept the bid on the table despite a lack of progress in negotiations. Speaking to the media, Cerezo said, “Julian Alvarez? He’s an Atletico de Madrid player. Or haven’t you got the message yet?” and added that his friendship with Laporta meant the Barcelona president “knows full well where Julián ‘Lopez’ is going to play next year.” Cerezo mistakenly referred to the Argentine as Julián ‘Lopez’ but quickly clarified that his point was simply that Alvarez is an Atletico player, and the misnaming did not alter the club’s firm stance. Alvarez has publicly admitted he wants to leave Atletico Madrid, a comment Cerezo dismissed by saying the situation had been put behind them, adding, “He had a slip‑up, but everything can be forgiven.” Barcelona’s coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco consider Alvarez an ideal addition to their attack, reinforcing the club’s interest despite the stalled talks. Laporta warned that Barcelona’s proposal “will not remain valid forever,” signalling a willingness to explore other options if negotiations stall. If talks fail to produce a breakthrough, Barcelona may activate alternative plans and target other players, leaving the Catalan club to consider new targets for the upcoming transfer window. The continued refusal by Atletico Madrid to soften its stance keeps the Argentine forward at the club and forces Barcelona to look elsewhere.
