Barcelona chase revenue as Pedrola nears Oviedo move in summer
Barcelona are monitoring former youth forward Estanis Pedrola as he edges toward a transfer to Spanish side Real Oviedo, with the Catalans retaining 50% of his economic rights until his contract expires in 2027 and a fee under discussion between €1 million and €1.5 million.
Although Barcelona have returned to the 1:1 rule this summer, the club are far from safe when it comes to economic limitations. This situation forces the Catalans to seek every possible revenue stream, and their long‑standing practice of inserting future sell‑on clauses into youth player deals has become a vital source of income. The focus this summer is on Estanis Pedrola, a winger whose next destination could generate fresh funds for the club.
Pedrola was originally sold to Sampdoria in the 2023‑24 season for €3 million after ten official appearances, with a percentage of any future sale and a €7 million buy‑back option that lapsed in 2025. Taking the original fee into account, the overall operation could have yielded Barcelona at least €3.5 million, while the current summer sell‑on clause could bring in up to €750,000.
According to reports, Real Oviedo and Sampdoria are negotiating Pedrola’s transfer, discussing a fee between €1 million and €1.5 million. Barcelona’s 50 % stake means the club would receive a modest share of that amount.
Pedrola’s form has revived after a spell in Italy disrupted by injuries; he spent the latter half of last season on loan at Las Palmas, scoring four goals in 20 matches before talks with the club fell through. His resurgence has attracted interest from several Spanish sides, including Mallorca, but Oviedo have pushed the hardest and appear close to finalising the deal.
For Barcelona, the transaction offers a potential boost to strained finances, adding a sell‑on payment that could reach €750,000. For Real Oviedo, securing Pedrola provides a winger with recent goal‑scoring form as they strengthen their squad.
