Barça’s €100m offer meets firm Atlético‑directeur stance on Álvarez

🇪🇸 By 4All Football Editorial ·
In the bustling streets of New York, Barcelona president Joan Laporta warned that his patience over the pursuit of Julián Álvarez is not limitless. Barça have tabled a bid of roughly €100 million, and if Atlético Madrid does not move, the Catalans will look elsewhere. Spaanse media reported that Barcelona’s offer stands at about one hundred million euros. The club has said it will not increase the fixed transfer sum. However, it remains open to a higher total through performance bonuses tied to future success. Laporta told reporters, “We have made a bid and Atlético will have to decide.” He added, “It is a very good bid. The player wants to leave, but it is not valid forever.” Over Álvarez, the president stressed that time is running out. The Catalan side clarified that any additional money would come from bonuses linked to winning La Liga or the Champions League, as well as individual milestones for Álvarez. Those clauses could raise the overall package without altering the base fee. He also noted that Álvarez is the player Hansi Flick and Deco want. “If Atlético does not accept, we must look at other options,” Laporta said, underscoring the urgency of a decision. Atlético‑directeur Miguel Ángel Marín responded that the striker is “in his place at Atleti.” He said, “We want to keep him. Not for €100 million, not for €150 million and not for €200 million.” The club’s stance appears firm. Laporta praised Deco’s work in the transfer market, citing successful attempts to sign Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon. He highlighted Gordon’s recent form, recalling his goal in the semi‑final against Argentina. “Gordon scored in the semi‑final with an excellently timed run,” Laporta said. “He is very fast, works hard and presses well.” The Barcelona president concluded that the club must now consider alternative striking options.
