West Ham rejects €40m Roma bid for Premier League hopeful Summerville
West Ham United have turned down an opening offer from AS Roma for 24‑year‑old winger Crysencio Summerville, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. The club rejected a €40 million bid exclusive of bonuses, signalling that the Hammers are not prepared to accept the initial terms.
The Italians presented the €40 million figure, but the Hammers, often referred to as the Hammers, are aiming for a higher valuation, reportedly around €53 million. West Ham’s stance reflects their need to maximise return on a player they consider a valuable Premier League asset.
Earlier on Saturday evening, it became public that Summerville had already reached a personal agreement with Roma. The Dutch international, who has earned six caps for the Netherlands, secured the deal despite the club’s opening bid being rejected.
Roma remain hopeful of completing the transfer, with reports suggesting they will not exceed €45 million for the pace‑driven attacker. Summerville is set to sign a five‑year contract that will earn him €4.5 million per season exclusive of bonuses, providing the Giallorossi with a long‑term option.
Aston Villa are also monitoring the situation, seeing Summerville as a potential replacement for Morgan Rogers. The Birmingham‑based club is on the verge of selling Rogers to Chelsea for €137 million and believes the sixfold Dutch international could fill the void.
Summerville’s move this summer appears inevitable, and West Ham view the sale as a crucial source of funds after their recent relegation to the Championship. The club’s financial strategy hinges on capitalising on high‑value departures.
Earlier this summer, West Ham completed the €99 million transfer of midfielder Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur. The club’s hierarchy believes that securing a fee for Summerville would finally alleviate their biggest monetary concerns.
