Paris Saint‑Germain leapfrog Liverpool to clinch Diomandé

🇬🇧
Paris Saint‑Germain are poised to sign 19‑year‑old RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomandé on a five‑year deal, with a transfer fee expected to be lower than the €100 million plus bids Liverpool submitted, according to L’Équipe. Diomandé has told the Ligue 1 club he wishes to move this summer, and he will earn less than he would have earned at Liverpool. The back‑to‑back Champions League winners have moved ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign the coveted Ivory Coast international. Diomandé’s expressed desire to join PSG this summer has prompted the club to accelerate talks with RB Leipzig. A five‑year contract is already being drafted between PSG and the 19‑year‑old winger. L’Équipe his wages at Paris Saint‑Germain will be lower than the terms he could have secured at Liverpool. Negotiations are further eased by Nasser Al‑Khelaïfi’s close relationship with Oliver Mintzlaff, the Red Bull CEO. Mintzlaff sits on the board of the European Club Association, which is chaired by PSG president. PSG owners Qatar Sports Investments and Red Bull already cooperate on other matters, providing an additional layer of collaboration. This existing partnership is expected to smooth the club‑to‑club talks with RB Leipzig. PSG aim to secure Diomandé quickly so he can be available after his post‑World Cup holidays. For Leipzig, the deal promises a lower transfer fee than the €100 million plus offers Liverpool had made, while Liverpool miss out on the promising winger.
