Milan eye Phil Foden as Leao replacement, €50‑60m price tag
AC Milan are scouting England midfielder Phil Foden to fill the void left by departing forward Rafael Leao, with the Rossoneri reportedly prepared to meet Manchester City’s €50‑60 million asking price as the club looks to rebuild its attacking options in the upcoming season.
Claudio Raimondi of SportMediaset, quoted by MilanNews.it, said an intermediary has presented Phil Foden to several clubs and that Milan are among the suitors. He added that the Italians are giving the profile genuine thought, indicating the interest is part of an active scouting process rather than speculation.
The England international is emerging from a difficult campaign at Manchester City, where his relationship with the club deteriorated and he was omitted from the World Cup squad by Thomas Tuchel. Foden, whose contract runs until 2027, has confirmed he will not extend his deal.
Manchester City have set an asking price of €50‑60 million for the midfielder, a sum Milan believe could be largely financed by the sale of Rafael Leao. Both players command annual wages of roughly €7‑7.5 million, making a direct swap financially plausible.
Leao’s departure, however, remains unresolved, with Tottenham reported to be interested. City are said to sanction Foden’s exit only after securing a marquee replacement, with Enzo Fernández described as their dream target.
At present the proposal remains a scouting scenario rather than a concrete negotiation, with a chain of conditions that must align before any transfer can materialise.
The key obstacles are finalising Leao’s move, obtaining City’s approval and securing the funding route, all of which will determine whether Milan can complete the post‑Leao overhaul.
