Evans and Tielemans were teammates at Leicester City for four years from 2019, forming part of the Foxes’ 2020 FA Cup‑winning side.

Both left the King Power Stadium in 2023, with Evans heading to United and Tielemans moving on to Aston Villa.

Evans has kept in touch with the 29‑year‑old, and United expect Tielemans to add creativity to their midfield under Michael Carrick.

Michael Carrick, United’s midfield coach, sees the Belgian as a key addition to the squad and found it natural to speak with Evans before finalising the deal.

The manager’s conversation with Evans helped push the transfer through.

"Jonny has been a big influence," Tielemans told United’s in‑house media. "I think he spoke to the manager about my character and personality."
