Guernsey's historic debut sees three sisters step onto the pitch
In a vivid moment at the Cherry Godfrey Cup, 16‑year‑old Emilie, Hollie and Millie Jeffreys became the first triplets to debut for Guernsey, as the island side secured third place with a 5‑1 victory over the Isle of Wight in the third‑place play‑off.
Guernsey were beaten 3-1 by the Isle of Man in their semi‑final on Friday. The loss sent them to the third‑place match the following day.
In the third‑place decider Guernsey defeated the Isle of Wight 5-1. Millie Jeffreys created the first three goals, with teammate Heidi Dawber completing a hat‑trick to put Guernsey 3-0 up by the 32nd minute. Thea Broadhead’s long‑range strike reduced the deficit before Emilie Jeffreys assisted Millie for a 4-1 lead, and Emilie capped the win with a stoppage‑time strike.
Emilie Jeffreys told BBC Radio Guernsey, “Since I can't even remember I've looked forward to this opportunity and it's finally come.” She added that playing together was “special”.
Hollie Jeffreys said, “The big goal is to be a professional footballer.” She noted that moving to York was “a massive step” toward that aim.
Millie Jeffreys added, “I can't wait to get started. This is only the beginning, and what's to come should be really special.”
The sisters will soon leave Guernsey to join York City's academy programme, where they will study academic qualifications while entering the pathway for the club's women's team.
