Club Brugge eyes record after Tzolis sale as Ordonez draws suitors
Club Brugge could shatter its outgoing‑transfer record after the imminent sale of Tzolis for more than €40 million, while a growing list of clubs, including Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion, chase defender Joel Ordonez, whose market value is estimated at €33 million.
Liverpool revived the trail on Joel Ordonez deze summer as a possible replacement for Ibrahima Konaté, who has departed for Real Madrid. The young defender is highly regarded in England.
Brighton & Hove Albion also entered the race, adding another English club to the list of suitors interested in the Club Brugge prospect.
Ordonez proved valuable for Ecuador at the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, featuring in Group E against Ivory Coast, Curaçao and Germany, and helped secure a surprise win over Germany to reach the round of 16.
The Ecuadorian is now back on his way to Brugge, but Club Brugge may not keep him for long. The club aims to extract the maximum fee and break the national outgoing‑transfer record after Tzolis is sold for more than €40 million.
Offers of €45 million have already been mentioned, and Club Brugge could aim even higher. Transfermarkt lists Ordonez’s market value at around €33 million, while his contract runs until June 2029, though the club appears ready to sell for the right price.
Internazionale have proposed a loan with a costly mandatory purchase option, allowing them to defer the transfer fee by a year, a deal that will be examined at Jan Breydel Stadium.
