Charlton secures Lucia Lobato and Lucy Fitzgerald, Barclays WSL2 core

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

Under the floodlights at The Valley, Charlton Athletic unveiled the latest moves to cement their WSL2 campaign. Midfielder Lucia Lobato and forward Lucy Fitzgerald each signed one‑year extensions, securing the Addicks’ core for the 2026/27 Barclays WSL2 season.

The club posted the announcements on its official website earlier today, stating the contracts aim to plug the gap left by departing forwards. The timing reflects Charlton’s intent to stabilise the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Both players signed new one‑year deals that will keep them at The Valley for the coming season. The news appeared as a club news item on the website.

Lobato arrived at Charlton Athletic from Olympique de Marseille during the previous summer transfer window. In the 2025/26 Barclays WSL2 campaign she featured in 15 matches and scored once, adding French league experience to the midfield.

Fitzgerald joined the South East London side last summer after leaving London City Lionesses. She played every league fixture for the Addicks in 2025/26, contributing five goals and establishing herself as a key attacking option.

Lobato expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I’m very, very excited. I think this is what dreams are made of… It’s immensely validating that the club want to continue with me. It brings me a genuine sense of warmth, and I really appreciate that, and I’m grateful for the trust and the opportunity.”

Fitzgerald added, “I think last season we had such a good season. I really enjoyed myself. I just loved the environment, I loved the team, I loved everyone I worked with, and it was quite a simple decision to stay. I loved it, so why not continue?”

The club indicated that further Charlton Athletic squad news will be announced in due course, suggesting additional roster moves may follow.
