Aberdeen fast‑tracks German goalkeeper Marius Muller as squad trim looms

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

Goalkeeper Marius Muller has signed a two‑year contract with Aberdeen, the Dons, on Thursday, becoming the latest addition to Stephen Robinson’s squad as the manager looks to trim the roster before the season starts. The 33‑year‑old German will compete for the number one spot alongside Dimitar Mitov and joins fellow newcomers Tony Yogane, Lewis Smith and others at Pittodrie.

Stephen Robinson explained that Aberdeen acted quickly to recruit the 33‑year‑old German because the club faces interest in current first‑choice keeper Dimitar Mitov. By adding Muller, the Dons ensure competition for the goalkeeper position and create options ahead of the new campaign.

The new signing joins a wave of arrivals that includes Tony Yogane, Lewis Smith, Ayoub Mouloua, Connor Ronan, Alexander Briedl, Brad Lyons, Lewis Mayo, Dan Happe, Toyosi Olusanya and Nesta Guinness‑Walker. Robinson noted that the squad is currently too big and that several players are expected to depart in the coming weeks.

"A manager always needs to bring in more," Robinson said with a chuckle. "We're still looking and there's still areas we need to be stronger. There are players I believe will leave the club in the coming weeks."

Robinson added that the club needs to hit the ground running and complete signings early so they are prepared. He expects further deals to follow as Aberdeen continues to shape a leaner, more competitive roster.

For Muller, the two‑year deal offers a chance to challenge for the starting role at Pittodrie. For Aberdeen, his arrival adds depth to the goalkeeping department while the club works to reduce squad size and strengthen key areas before the season kicks off.
