Roma activate Donyell Malen purchase option for €25m

AS Roma announced today they have exercised the purchase option for Dutch forward Donyell Malen. The 27‑year‑old joins the club permanently after a loan from Aston Villa that started in January. The permanent transfer is valued at €25 million, in addition to the €2 million loan fee already paid.

The activation comes two days after Roma secured a Champions League place on the final Serie A matchday. That qualification was achieved by winning their last league fixture.

Malen’s loan from Aston Villa included a €25 million buy‑out clause. The clause was triggered by Roma following his performances during the loan spell.

The total outlay for the forward now reaches €27 million. The fee reflects Roma’s intent to strengthen the attacking line ahead of the new season.

Malen will be eligible for Roma’s upcoming Champions League campaign. His permanent signing completes the club’s summer transfer activity.
