Standard Liège eyes Ivorian right-back Koffi Kouao as summer target

Standard de Liège is actively courting Ivorian right‑back Koffi Kouao, whose contract expires on 30 June 2026, after a season at FC Metz where he featured in 27 Ligue 1 matches. The club aims to complete its summer rebuild before the new campaign begins.

Bruny Nsimba arrived from FCV Dender EH as part of Standard de Liège’s early summer activity. The forward’s signing was among several deals the club completed to strengthen the squad.

Dimitri Lavalée secured a two‑year contract with Standard de Liège, with an option to extend for a third season. The defender’s agreement is described as a solid and important addition for the Rouches.

Koffi Kouao, a 28‑year‑old right‑back, has entered negotiations with Standard de Liège after announcing his departure from FC Metz at the end of the season. He will become a free agent on 30 June 2026, making him an attractive option without a transfer fee.

During the last Ligue 1 campaign, Kouao played 27 competitive matches for FC Metz, delivering consistent performances despite the club’s relegation. His work ethic and level attracted interest from Standard’s scouting department.

Standard de Liège intends to reinforce its defence for the upcoming season, viewing Kouao as a player who can add quality and experience to the right flank. The Belgian side believes his profile fits the competitive environment they aim to maintain.

Kouao’s representatives continue to explore alternative possibilities, with several clubs outside Belgium monitoring his situation. The defender therefore has multiple options as he prepares for the next phase of his career.

Negotiations between Standard de Liège and Kouao remain ongoing, and the transfer could accelerate in the coming days. A decision is expected before the start of pre‑season preparations for the new campaign.
