Havertz breaks German Champions League final scoring record

🇩🇪 5 June 2026

Kai Havertz became the first German to score in two separate UEFA Champions League finals. The milestone was achieved during Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s defeat to Real Madrid.

Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann views Havertz as a key option despite a competitive striker pool. The German national team coach has prioritized Havertz for his versatility and big-game experience.

Havertz scored 26 goals in all competitions for Bayer 04 Leverkusen during the 2023-24 season. His Champions League contributions included goals in the quarter-final and final.

Nagelsmann’s squad selection challenges include balancing Havertz’s form with established names like Niclas Füllkrug and Florian Wirtz. The trio forms part of a deep attacking unit for Germany’s Euro 2024 preparations.

Leverkusen’s Champions League run concluded with a 2-0 loss to Real Madrid in London. Carlo Ancelotti’s side secured their 15th European Cup title.

Nagelsmann’s next focus shifts to Germany’s Euro 2024 campaign on home soil. Havertz remains central to his tactical plans.
