Germany meets Ivory Coast after 7‑1 and 1‑0 victories
On World Cup Day 10, Germany face Ivory Coast at 22:00 in Toronto after both sides opened the group with wins – Germany demolished Curaçao 7‑1, while Ivory Coast secured a 1‑0 triumph over Ecuador thanks to a strike from Manchester United forward Amad Diallo.
Germany enter the clash with a potent attack led by Kai Havertz, Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala. Coach Julian Nagelsmann also has Deniz Undav and Leroy Sané waiting on the bench.
Ivory Coast will look to a disciplined defence to blunt Germany’s firepower. Their confidence stems from the late goal that gave them a 1‑0 win over Ecuador.
Curaçao, in only their second World Cup appearance, celebrated Livano Comenencia’s goal against Germany. Coach Dick Advocaat says the player reviews the strike daily.
Ecuador rely on a strong midfield built around Chelsea’s Moisés Caicedo and a back line featuring Arsenal’s Piero Hincapié and PSG’s Willian Pacho. Veteran striker Enner Valencia, aged 36, remains a potential source of goals.
Tunisia, reeling from a 5‑1 defeat that led to Sabri Lamouchi’s dismissal, have appointed Hervé Renard to spark a shock effect. The North African side had previously scored five goals against Belgium, raising their total conceded to ten in the last two matches.
Japan, fresh from a 2‑2 draw with the Netherlands, aim for a win in Monterrey against Tunisia to advance to the knockout stage. Feyenoord forward Ayase Ueda is highlighted as a possible match‑winner.
The results in Toronto and Monterrey will determine which two teams from each group move forward. Germany, Ivory Coast, Tunisia and Japan all have a clear path to the next round.
