Comolli to leave Juventus after failed Alisson pursuit
Damien Comolli is set to leave Juventus after one year, with a board meeting scheduled for Friday 12 June to confirm his departure. The botched pursuit of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has been identified as the decisive incident that broke his relationship with Luciano Spalletti.
Alfredo Pedullà says the Alisson saga proved decisive for the breakdown. Spalletti had been assured the Brazilian would arrive and spent time persuading him, but the approach to Liverpool came too late and without prior groundwork. The mishandling caused trust between coach and CEO to collapse, and subsequent transfer targets also fell through.
Comolli joined Juventus in June 2025 as Director General and was later promoted to CEO, replacing Maurizio Scanavino. His season ended with Juventus failing to qualify for the Champions League, a setback that made his position untenable.
Exor responded by naming Giovanni Carnevali as Comolli's successor. Carnevali, who has served as CEO of US Sassuolo Calcio since 2014, is noted for building competitive squads on modest budgets.
