Summerville set for €4.5m‑a‑year deal as Roma negotiate fee

🇮🇹 By 4All Football Editorial ·
Crysencio Summerville has reached a principle agreement with AS Roma, signing a five‑year contract that will earn him €4.5 million per season, exclusive of bonuses. The 24‑year‑old winger, formerly of West Ham United, confirmed the deal through transfer journalist Nicolò Schira. The agreement still requires both clubs to settle the transfer fee. According to Corriere dello Sport, the Londenaren (Londoners) hope to receive around €53 million, while Roma are reportedly unwilling to exceed €45 million. The two sides must close this €8 million gap in the coming hours. West Ham United, relegated from the Premier League last season, face a financial imperative to generate cash. The club needs several large sales to stabilise its accounts, and the Summerville move could form part of that strategy. Earlier this window, West Ham secured a €99 million transfer of Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur, demonstrating the club’s willingness to cash in valuable assets. Summerville’s departure would add further funds to the balance sheet. Summerville originally cost West Ham €29.3 million two years ago and has become a six‑time Netherlands international. In the most recent campaign he featured in 34 matches, netting seven goals and providing five assists, while also recording 56 duels in which he scored eight times and assisted seven teammates. For AS Roma, the signing offers a dynamic, pace‑driven option on the flanks, complementing their existing attack and justifying the €4.5 million annual wage. The five‑year term secures the player’s services well into the club’s medium‑term plans. West Ham United stands to benefit financially from the deal, potentially recouping a portion of the original €29.3 million outlay and easing the fiscal pressure caused by relegation. The transfer could also free up a squad spot for new acquisitions. De report also notes that "Als" the fee gap is resolved, both clubs will have achieved their immediate objectives: Roma will add a proven winger, and the Londenaren will receive a substantial cash inflow to aid their recovery.
