Spalletti frames Zeki Celik signing as Juventus’ answer to defensive void

🇮🇹 By 4All Football Editorial ·
Juventus needed to plug a defensive void after Roma lost Turkish full‑back Zeki Celik yesterday, and head coach Luciano Spalletti praised the Bianconeri’s swift acquisition as proof of the club’s strength and readiness to reinforce the squad in the coming season. Roma failed to retain Celik yesterday, with the defender on the verge of a new contract, creating an immediate opening that Juventus moved to fill. The Bianconeri acted quickly to secure the experienced player before any other club could intervene. The signing brings a Turkish full‑back with considerable experience to Juventus. Spalletti described Zeki Celik as “a player with character, certainly reliable and with the attitude of a warrior,” adding that the defender “won’t have any problems settling in because he’s an experienced player, a very good guy who everyone in football knows, and he’ll fit in easily.” The Certaldo‑born coach opened the press conference by stating, “Someone may leave, but we must be ready. What happened yesterday shows that we have a strong club, one that knows how to surprise.” His remarks highlighted the need to be prepared for departures and to fill the boxes required for a strong squad. Addressing the club’s executives, Spalletti said, “I’ve always had a good relationship with all the executives I’ve worked with in my career. We know Carnevoli and Massara well: I’ve already worked with the latter and I know his qualities very well. I’ve never worked with Carnevoli, but we have mutual respect and a relationship that has tied us together for years.” He emphasized that they are “on perfect terms.” Concluding, Spalletti asserted, “I have the utmost confidence that we will fill the boxes we need to have a strong squad and important aspirations.” The comment underscored his belief that Celik’s arrival strengthens Juventus’ defensive options. He also warned that releasing names early could complicate negotiations, noting that “the pitch and the desk can make a lot of difference in terms of the quality of our football and our team.” This caution points to potential obstacles in finalising further squad additions.
