Delay forces Barcelona to wait for Laporta and Deco

🇪🇸 By 4All Football Editorial ·
Barcelona is ready to unveil German winger Karim Adeyemi, its €22 million summer signing, but the club has delayed the official announcement until president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco return from the United States, meaning the new player must wait a few more days to become a Barcelona player. Mundo Deportivo reported that Barcelona had planned to confirm the deal this weekend, but the announcement will now be delayed. The club’s expectation of a weekend reveal was set back by the officials’ absence. The postponement is not linked to any contractual issue; the transfer is fully agreed and all terms have been settled. Only the formal presentation remains pending. The agreement with Borussia Dortmund is valued at €22 million upfront, with an additional €7 million in performance‑related bonuses. Dortmund will also retain a percentage of any future capital gain from a subsequent transfer. Adeyemi arrived in Barcelona on Wednesday and completed his medical examination on Thursday, removing the final sporting obstacle to the move. His prompt medical clearance cleared the way for the transfer to be finalised. Laporta and Deco are currently attending the FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium in the United States. They are scheduled to fly back to Barcelona on Tuesday, prompting the postponement of the announcement. The club now expects to unveil Adeyemi on Wednesday, making him the second signing of the 2026/27 season after Anthony Gordon. This timing aligns with the club’s pre‑season schedule. Until the formal announcement, Adeyemi cannot train at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, although he visited the facility on Friday and briefly met his new teammates and coach Hansi Flick. He is maintaining fitness by training in his hotel gym. Once officially confirmed, the forward will join Flick’s pre‑season preparations, adding speed and dynamism to Barcelona’s frontline and strengthening the bench as the La Liga champions aim to progress under Flick. The contrast between the waiting period and the imminent integration highlights the club’s strategic timing.
