Club Brugge abandons €2m purchase option on 17‑year‑old Grombahi

Club Brugge has decided not to activate the €2 million purchase option for 17‑year‑old left‑footed winger Chris Grombahi, ending his loan from Sporting CP at the close of the season and sending the youngster back to Portugal after the club concluded negotiations over a lower fee.

Club Brugge had taken Chris Grombahi on loan from Sporting CP until the end of the current season. The agreement included a three‑year contract option priced at €2 million, which the Belgian club has now chosen not to trigger.

Grombahi, only 17, is a left‑footed winger who completed his entire youth development at Sporting CP. He began playing at Alta de Lisboa before joining Sporting’s academy in 2017.

Last season he featured for Sporting CP’s U23 side in the Portuguese Liga Revelação, making 21 appearances. In those matches he contributed five goals and four assists.

He also logged four appearances in the UEFA Youth League. In October 2025 he debuted for Sporting CP’s first team in the Allianz Cup quarter‑final against Alverca.

Club Brugge previously announced, “Grombahi comes on loan until the end of this season, with an option to extend the cooperation for three seasons,” when the deal was arranged. The club later sought a lower purchase price but negotiations did not progress.

According to Portuguese sources, the player will return to Portugal after the loan expires. Simultaneously, Club Brugge indicated he will be assigned to Club NXT, the club’s reserve team.
