Bayern’s interest in Brughmans: Kompany denies direct contact

🇧🇪
Genk goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans has clarified the reported interest from Vincent Kompany regarding a move to Bayern München. The two have not spoken directly, Brughmans stated, despite claims of concrete interest from the Bayern manager. Brughmans, aged 18, has made eleven appearances for Genk’s first team this season. His contract was extended by Genk in 2025, yet speculation about a potential transfer to Bayern München persisted. The goalkeeper addressed the matter during an appearance on ’s coverage of the Canada vs South Africa World Cup match. Presentator Ruben Van Gucht questioned Brughmans about the alleged contact with Kompany. Brughmans neither confirmed nor denied the claim, stating, “It could be true that there was contact behind my back, but Kompany has not called me personally.” Van Gucht concluded that Kompany had not spoken directly to Brughmans. Brughmans added, “Whether Kompany phoned with a transfer in mind? That could be correct, but he hasn’t called me.” The ambiguity leaves the nature of the reported interest unresolved. Brughmans refrained from endorsing or dismissing the Bayern link. “I have no idea,” he said. His focus remains on his role at Genk, where he has been named first-choice goalkeeper under coach Nicky Hayen for the new season. The young goalkeeper has been linked with European top clubs, including Bayern München and Real Madrid. Genk officials have not commented on the speculation surrounding Brughmans. Last season, Brughmans took over as Genk’s starting goalkeeper during the play-offs, following inconsistent performances by Tobias Lawel and Hendrik Van Crombrugge.
