AS Roma eye cheap Dutch midfielder as Koné replacement
AS Roma have identified Netherlands international Quinten Timber as a potential midfield addition to replace Manu Koné, who has drawn interest from several Premier League clubs after strong World Cup performances. La dello Sport reported on Thursday that the Italian side are actively evaluating the 25‑year‑old Utrecht native.
Manu Koné’s recent displays in the Premier League and at the World Cup have prompted Roma to seek a successor, according to the Italian daily. The club’s scouting list includes three names: Arne Engels of Celtic, Danilo Santos of Botafogo, and Quinten Timber.
Timber joined Olympique Marseille in January, arriving from Feyenoord for an estimated five million euros. The transfer marked his first move abroad after developing in the Dutch system.
Roma target Quinten Timber as Marseille’s money problems grow
The midfielder signed a contract with Marseille that runs until mid‑2030, but the French club is grappling with serious financial difficulties and is expected to off‑load several players this summer. Because of Marseille’s fiscal strain, Roma consider Timber a relatively inexpensive option for Serie A. After just half a season in Ligue 1, the Dutch international could make a swift return to Italy. Roma have already secured Donyell Malen on a permanent deal and are now focusing on Crysencio Summerville, the West Ham United winger who also represents the Dutch national team. La notes that Summerville’s acquisition has been given priority by the club. With multiple targets on their radar, the Romans continue to explore affordable talent to reinforce their midfield ahead of the upcoming season.
