Newcastle's pursuit of Manzambi stalls at €49m price tag amid Tonali exit
Newcastle United have been linked with Swiss forward Johan Manzambi, the 20‑year‑old World Cup sensation, as the club searches for a successor to Sandro Tonali, but Freiburg have set a transfer price of £42 million – roughly €49 million – that could stall the move.
Sandro Tonali is expected to leave Newcastle United next summer, and the Italian midfielder is being courted by Arsenal as part of a potential transfer.
Newcastle view Manzambi as a possible replacement for Tonali, positioning the Swiss youngster as a key target in their summer recruitment plan.
Manzambi featured in three matches at the World Cup, scoring three goals and providing one assist during the tournament.
Freiburg have placed a steep price tag on Manzambi, demanding £42 million, which translates to almost €49 million, while Transfermarkt values the player at €50 million.
In the previous season, Manzambi made 47 appearances for Freiburg, netting seven goals, delivering nine assists, and receiving two red cards.
He signed a new contract in the summer of 2025, extending his stay with Freiburg until mid‑2030.
