Weghorst's Instagram-account post fuels FC Twente pride in Enschede
Vandaag, as the floodlights flickered over the Enschede training ground, 33‑year‑old Wout Weghorst stepped onto the pitch in a fresh FC Twente shirt and posted a series of images on his Instagram‑account, captioned in Twents dialect, while recalling his first‑team debut that saw him net the equaliser in a 1‑1 friendly against KAA Gent.
FC Twente confirmed Weghorst’s arrival at the end of June, after which the striker enjoyed a short vacation before reporting back to the Enschede facilities following the WK 2026 in the Verenigde Staten, Canada and Mexico. Op the training field he immediately began integrating with his new teammates.
The new signing of De Tukkers shared on his Instagram a collection of photos wearing the FC Twente kit, and the striking caption read, ‘Ik bin niet gek, ik bin van FC Twente’, a nod to the local Twentse dialect. Op the platform he highlighted his enthusiasm for the club.
During his first oefenwedstrijd in the FC Twente shirt, Weghorst made an immediate impact, scoring the equaliser to secure a 1‑1 draw against KAA Gent.
FC Twente marks the fifth Dutch professional club in Weghorst’s career; the Borne‑born forward previously represented Heracles Almelo, FC Emmen, AZ and Ajax.
Last season with the Amsterdammers, he featured in 34 matches, finding the net nine times and providing four assists.
Weghorst’s early integration and visible enthusiasm suggest he could play a pivotal role in FC Twente’s ambitions this campaign, reinforcing the squad with proven Eredivisie experience.
