Hapoel Tel aviv's gamble on Ghanaian winger Douglas Owusu

EXCLUSIVE Hapoel Tel Aviv have sealed the signing of Ghanaian winger Douglas Owusu from Red Star Belgrade, adding a three‑year contract in a bid to address a clear need for more firepower ahead of the upcoming Israeli Premier League campaign.

Owusu signed a three‑year deal that includes an option to extend for a further two years, giving Hapoel Tel Aviv long‑term control over his development. The agreement was finalised after the player put pen to paper in Tel Aviv, confirming his commitment to the Israeli side.

The transfer fee was reported at €2.2 million, paid by Serbian side Radnik Surdulica as part of the earlier deal that sent the winger to Red Star Belgrade. This outlay underscores the value Hapoel places on securing a promising talent.

Owusu moved to Israel only months after joining Red Star during the January transfer window, highlighting a rapid progression through European football. His brief stint with the Serbian champions followed a standout season with Radnik in the 2025/26 Serbian Super Liga.

While at Radnik, the 20‑year‑old scored seven goals and added one assist, establishing himself as one of the league’s most exciting young attacking talents. His performances attracted interest from several clubs before Red Star secured his signature.

During his time with Red Star Belgrade, Owusu later added two goals for the Serbian champions. These contributions further raised his profile ahead of the move to Israel.

Known for his pace, direct running, dribbling ability and eye for goal, Owusu is expected to strengthen Hapoel Tel Aviv’s attacking options ahead of the new Israeli Premier League season. The club hopes his skill set will translate into a consistent threat in the Israeli top flight.

The move also represents a key step in Owusu’s rise in European football, offering regular first‑team football in a competitive league. Strong performances in Israel could enhance his reputation and put him on the radar of Ghana’s national team selectors, while the club looks for a swift adaptation to his new surroundings.
