Black Queens dispute per diems as Ministry says WAFCON bonus pending

While the Black Queens allege they have not received all per diems and bonuses tied to the 2026 WAFCON tournament, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation counters that every approved allowance has already been paid and that the remaining bonus is simply awaiting final processing.

Per diem payments confirmed

The Ministry stated that players and eligible officials were given their per diems in advance on July 29, covering the period from July 26 to August 7, and that a further payment was made on August 11 after Ghana’s quarter‑final exit, covering the stay in Morocco from August 8 to 14.

It added that these payments were documented by signed allowance sheets attached to its statement and, as of August 12, there was no outstanding government obligation relating to per diems.

Bonus and welfare issues

Regarding winning bonuses, the Ministry acknowledged that the Black Queens earned a bonus for their group‑stage victory over Cape Verde, but said the amount is still being processed through required financial procedures and will be transferred directly into the players’ and officials’ bank accounts.

The Ministry also disputed the players’ claim of an outstanding qualification bonus from matches against Egypt, explaining that the current sports‑financing framework does not provide a separate bonus for qualifying through the home‑and‑away round, although approved costs such as per diems and operational expenses are covered.

On welfare concerns, the Ministry highlighted a support structure that includes a team manager, administrator, two physiotherapists, a medical doctor, a nurse, a dietician, a chef, management team members and technical officials, with an attached accountant facilitating approved payments for additional needs.

It reiterated the government’s firm commitment to the Black Queens and Women’s football, urging that any disputes over financial entitlements and welfare be addressed through the appropriate institutional channels.

The response arrives as the Black Queens prepare for their FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification play‑in against Cote d’Ivoire, a match that could secure a place at the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
