Dick Advocaat Returns, Curaçao Lose 4-1 to Scotland

1 June 2026
Dick Advocaat returned as Curaçao manager for a friendly against Scotland at Hampden Park. Curaçao fell 4-1 after Jürgen Locadia was sent off. Advocaat had stepped down in late February because his daughter's health deteriorated. Fred Rutten succeeded him but resigned three weeks later, prompting Advocaat's comeback ahead of the World Cup. Curaçao opened the scoring in the first half when a long ball from Riechedly Bazoer was collected by Tahith Chong, who finished low into the corner. Scotland's George Hirst later headed towards goal, but goalkeeper Eloy Room denied him with a fingertip save. Locadia elbowed right‑back Aaron Hickey, received a yellow card that was upgraded to a red after VAR review, and left the field. Five minutes later substitute Findlay Curtis struck from a tight angle to make it 1-1. Lawrence Shankland then put Scotland ahead 2-1 and later extended the lead to 3-1. Jurien Gaari miskicked a shot from his own penalty area. Ryan Christie completed the scoring from the spot for the fourth goal. Curaçao will travel to face Aruba on the night of Saturday to Sunday. At the World Cup, the team will meet Germany, Ecuador and Ivory Coast in the group stage.
