Bernardo Silva receives emotional guard of honour from Man City players
Manchester City players formed a guard of honour for Bernardo Silva ahead of their Premier League match against Aston Villa on the final day of the season.
Silva will leave Manchester City after eight years, with his last game ending in a 2–0 defeat against Aston Villa. The Portuguese midfielder scored 54 goals and provided 50 assists during his time at the club.
City manager Pep Guardiola broke down in tears during the pre-match tribute. The tribute included a standing ovation from the Etihad Stadium crowd as Silva walked out with his family.
Silva made his Premier League debut for Benfica before joining Manchester City in 2017. He won 27 trophies during his spell at the club, including four Premier League titles and the historic treble in 2022–23.
Guardiola described Silva as one of the most intelligent players he has ever coached. The City players wore special shirts with Silva’s name and number, 20, to mark the occasion.
Silva will join AS Monaco next season after his contract with Manchester City expired.
