Ralf Rangnick eyed for AC Milan sporting director role
German coach Ralf Rangnick is under consideration for AC Milan’s sporting director position. A meeting took place in Vienna involving Rangnick and AC Milan representatives. AC Milan’s sporting director role has been vacant since Stefano Pioli became head coach in June 2024.
Rangnick, 65, has prior experience as sporting director at RB Leipzig from 2012 to 2015. He later served as head coach at Manchester United in 2021–22. His name resurfaced amid AC Milan’s ongoing managerial and structural changes.
AC Milan finished 14th in Serie A last season, their lowest position in over two decades. Pioli’s appointment as head coach followed the departure of Stefano Pioli’s predecessor, Marco Giampaolo, in October 2023.
Rangnick’s potential appointment would mark another high-profile move in his career. He has previously worked as sporting director at Hoffenheim and as head coach at Schalke 04 and TSG Hoffenheim.
AC Milan’s next steps regarding the sporting director position remain unclear. Further discussions with Rangnick or other candidates are expected in the coming weeks.
