CAS Confirms Six-Year Doping Ban for Rhonex Kipruto
The Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed on 21 May a six‑year doping suspension for Rhonex Kipruto. The decision upholds the ban imposed by the Athletics Integrity Unit.
The Athletics Integrity Unit had previously handed Kipruto a six‑year suspension after finding him guilty of a doping violation. The ban covers all competition and results for the duration.
Kipruto holds the world record for the 10‑kilometre road race with a time of 26 minutes 24 seconds. The record was set while he was still eligible to compete.
With the ban in place, the 10 km world record is likely to change hands. Other elite distance runners will now have the opportunity to target the mark.
The confirmation by the CAS marks the final step in the disciplinary process. No further appeal is expected.
Kipruto’s future in athletics remains uncertain, and the suspension will keep him out of competition until 2029. The athletics community will watch how the record evolves in his absence.
