Shrewsbury's gamble on Josh Davison aims to revive scoring

🇬🇧 1 uur geleden

Shrewsbury Town have secured the services of 26‑year‑old striker Josh Davison on a two‑year deal after his release from Tranmere Rovers, where he logged seven goals in 67 appearances and spent the 2025‑26 season on loan at Cheltenham Town, scoring once in 16 League Two matches.

Davison began his professional career with Charlton Athletic, during which he experienced loan periods at Woking, Forest Green Rovers and Swindon Town. These early moves provided him with experience across the lower leagues.

In 2022 he transferred to AFC Wimbledon for an undisclosed fee. Two years later he moved to Tranmere Rovers.

Shrewsbury manager Gavin Cowan explained the club's interest, saying, “We played against him a couple of times last season. In that first game against Tranmere, he really showed a lot of the qualities we’re looking for.” He added that the aim is to help Davison return to regular goal‑scoring.

The Shrews finished 19th in League Two last season. They open the new campaign against Salford City in the first round of the Carabao Cup on Saturday, 8 August.

The contract runs for two years. The signing was announced on the club's website.

Cowan expressed confidence that Davison will rediscover his scoring touch with Shrewsbury. The club's statement highlighted the goal of helping him get back to scoring goals.
