Club Brugge loses another Youth League finalist as Braspenning departs

🇧🇪

In the Club Brugge training ground, 22-year-old defender Daan Braspenning announced his departure after eight years, ending his spell as U18 captain and member of the squad that reached this season’s Youth League final. He had joined the club at age ten and progressed through every youth level.

Braspenning once dreamed of wearing the colours of Manchester United, a childhood ambition he shared publicly. Despite that aspiration, his career has been rooted in Belgian football.

Before his long tenure at Club Brugge, he spent time with Sint-Jozef and KFC Turnhout, developing as a central defender. Over the eight years at Club Brugge he rose through the ranks to become a key figure in the youth set‑up.

He was part of the core group that reached the Youth League final this season, although he featured in only four matches as a substitute. His impact was more pronounced in domestic competition with the U18 side, where he captained the team.

"After eight fantastic years in this club, it is time to say goodbye," Braspenning wrote on Instagram, signalling his decision to leave.

He added, "I am extremely proud to have been able to wear these colours for so many years. This club not only shaped me as a player, but also as a person," expressing gratitude for the opportunities and friendships he gained.

Concluding his farewell post, he said, "Even if I am eager to take on a new challenge, this club will always hold a special place in my heart," hinting at a future move without revealing his next destination.
