Milan 1-2 Cagliari ends Rossoneri Champions League hopes
AC Milan took the lead through Olivier Giroud after 12 minutes at San Siro. The Rossoneri led through a first-half strike from the French striker.
Cagliari equalized before halftime through Leonardo Pavoletti’s 35th-minute header. The Italian striker powered a corner past Mike Maignan in the Milan goal.
The hosts regained the lead in the 55th minute via Antoine Griezmann’s strike. The French forward converted after a defensive error from Simon Kjaer.
Milan pushed for an equalizer but failed to create clear chances in the final 30 minutes. Cagliari defended deep and absorbed pressure from Rafael Leao and Alexis Saelemaekers.
Cagliari’s win leaves Milan with 63 points from 30 Serie A games. The Rossoneri remain in third but trail leaders Juventus by eight points.
Milan’s Champions League hopes now depend on results from other matches. A top-four finish is required to secure next season’s group stage.
