Roberto De Zerbi Appointed Olympique de Marseille Head Coach

In 2024 Roberto De Zerbi took charge of Olympique de Marseille as the club's new head coach. The appointment was confirmed by the French side early in the season.

Roberto De Zerbi was born on 6 June 1979 in Brescia, Italy. He spent the majority of his playing career in his native country before turning to coaching.

De Zerbi first gained prominence as the manager of Sassuolo, where he led the team from 2018 to 2021. His work in Italy earned him a reputation for attractive, possession‑based football.

He then moved to Ukraine to coach Shakhtar Donetsk for the 2021‑22 season. The stint added European competition experience to his résumé.

After Ukraine, De Zerbi was appointed head coach of Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League. He spent several seasons guiding the Seagulls before departing.

Marseille expect De Zerbi to implement his progressive style and improve the team's consistency in Ligue 1. The club hopes his tactical acumen will help them challenge for European qualification.
